Austin, Texas is the capital of Texas and home of the University of Texas. It's a lively town well known for its live music scene, outdoor activities, and good food. This, along with an eclectic variety of shopping options, makes it the perfect place to hold a convention.
Best Locations in Austin for Conventions
There are many Austin convention center hotels throughout the area. Many of them are located downtown, which conveniently puts attendees to Austin conventions in close proximity to the myriad shopping and dining opportunities there. Several Austin convention center hotels can be found on the shores of some of the beautiful lakes in Austin, like Lady Bird Lake, which is close to downtown and the famous Sixth Street, with the added plus of having easy access to the waterfront and all the activities available there.
Things to See and Do in Austin
While Austin conventions may keep attendees busy, there are plenty of things to see and do in Austin. Start on Austin's Sixth Street, wandering in and out of bars and restaurants and listening to live music. Or, check out Third Street, Sixth Street's less touristy counterpart. Sample some of Austin's amazing restaurants - Texas barbecue, authentic Mexican food, and Tex-Mex are a must. Austin also has many food trucks that prepare any kind of food imaginable - cupcakes, tacos, Korean food, crepes, empanadas, fried chicken and waffles, and so much more. Go shopping, or just wander up and down South Congress and visit the variety of unique stores. Try kayaking or taking a boat tour on Lady Bird Lake. Go swimming in Barton Springs Pool, which is fed from underground springs and maintains an average temperature year-round of 68 degrees.
Austin is also home to multiple running, hiking, and biking trails. Take a guided or self-guided tour of the State Capitol building, see the mass exodus of bats from under the Congress Avenue Bridge, or visit the Austin Museum of Art.
